The Victorian branch of the Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) provides a summary of current annual and hourly salaries on their website at www.anf.org.au.

  • Normal working hours of a nurse 38 hrs a week
  • For a nurse who has a minimum of 2 to 3 yrs experience can expect a take home salary of 3,200 to 3,500 $for a fortnight
  • The pay rate is determined according to your YEARS OF EXPERIENCE in the nursing industry.

Salary packaging

Salary packaging is an Australian Taxation Office approved means of restructuring your income. Normally your employer would pay you in the form of cash salary after tax deductions; you would then pay expenses and purchases such as motor vehicle, Lease repayments and running costs, lap top computer etc., from salary after-tax salary. Instead with salary packaging, you restructure your salary by choosing to take a percentage of your salary in cash and package approved benefits to be paid out of your pre-tax salary. You receive part of your salary, also known as remuneration in the form of taxable benefits, and part in after-tax cash salary.
